President’s Message
Dear Colleague:
Thank you for your interest in the Personalized Medicine Coalition‘s 18th Annual Personalized Medicine Conference.
This conference comes at what PMC believes is a pivotal moment for the future of biomedical innovation and personalized medicine.
In an opinion essay published by The Boston Globe‘s healthcare affiliate, STAT, on April 5, my colleague, Chris Wells, and I reflect, with reference to Francis Collins’ Congressional testimony on May 22, 2003, on how far a shared vision for the future of personalized medicine has taken us over the course of the past two decades.
In our estimation, many of Dr. Collins’ predictions have come to pass. As anticipated, new scientific discoveries, not to mention industry investments, have driven to the market thousands of innovative tests and therapies that promise to help direct the right preventive and treatment interventions to the right patients at the right times.
But as our essay also explains, clinical practice gaps and access challenges are leaving too many patients without the benefits that personalized medicine would provide.
The 18th Annual Personalized Medicine Conference will examine the importance of continuing to invest in the research and development programs that drive progress in personalized medicine. It will also explore strategies for widening access to the tests and treatments that make personalized medicine possible.
By rallying academic researchers, investors, business leaders, and health system administrators around a shared vision for the future of the field, we believe the conference, organized as it is by the nonprofit Coalition with the support of its more than 200 member institutions, will help pave the way for the advancement of personalized medicine, which can vastly improve the delivery of healthcare.
We hope to see you there.
Sincerely yours,
Edward Abrahams
President
